Your skin gets its colour from a pigment called “melanin” produced by special cells in the skin. When these cells become unhealthy or damaged, it affects melanin production. Pigmentation means colouring. Abnormal pigmentation can be classed as any discolouration of the skin. If your body makes too much melanin, your skin gets darker, hyperpigmentation.
