Lip Enhancement Fillers

Published on: March 31, 2015

Whilst most fashion and beauty trends come and go, full, luscious lips never go out of style. Fuller lips are synonymous with youth and beauty and many of aspire to have lips like our favourite celebrities but unfortunately we are not all blessed with full, well-defined lips and they can thin as we age. There are certain things you can do to make your lips appear fuller temporarily such as applying lip liner slightly outside the edges and using shiny lip gloss, but these can look false, don’t last and cannot change the shape or definition of your lips.

Your lips can start to appear thinner from the age of 30 as the body starts to produce less collagen and this tends to be more noticeable in smokers and people who have had excess sun exposure. Lip fillers are a simple and safe way of enhancing your lips, plumping out smooth lines and adding definition so your lips look fantastic 24/7 without even wearing makeup. The most common ingredient for these fillers is hyaluronic acid, a compound that is produced by the body so is highly unlikely to cause adverse reactions. The advantage to injectable fillers as opposed to surgical implants is that they are not permanent, so you can decide whether or not you want the treatment repeated, there are fewer complications, they do not require surgery and there is no risk of scarring or misshapen lips. As you discuss with your practitioner where the filler will be administered, you are in more control of how your lips will look.

As your lips are very sensitive, you will be given a numbing agent before any injections are administered and you may experience some swelling and bruising afterwards which will subside. As well as making your lips look fuller, fillers can also be injected in the fine lines either side of your mouth (marionette lines) and any small creases you may have above your upper lip. Your new look will last between 6 months to a year and then you can decide whether or not you want to have the treatment redone. Your lips will look noticeable plump and defined whilst looking beautifully natural.
