The skin around our eyes is the thinnest and most delicate on the body, which also means that it is prone to fine lines and thinning with age, leaving the area looking dark and sunken. The area under the eyes, known as the tear trough, can be revitalised with the use of dermal fillers if makeup isn’t quite doing the job.

At the London Cosmetic Clinic we use the best quality products available on the market for our injectable dermal fillers. In the case of tear troughs, we tend to use synthetically-created hyaluronic acid to add volume and moisture to the area. Hyaluronic acid is a compound naturally found in the body and we use synthetically created hyaluronic acid in a sterile gel that is completely free of animal or human DNA but still has the same effects as the hyaluronic acid created by the body and is both biocompatible and biodegradable.

Prior to your treatment, you will have a free, non-obligation consultation with our experienced specialist doctor where they will assess the condition of your skin. During this consultation your doctor will also determine the amount of the product required for your desired results and will discuss aftercare treatment with you. The product is injected using cannulas, blunted needles that have a lower risk of bruising or injecting into blood vessels, and is then massaged into place to give a smooth, even result. As the hyaluronic acid adds volume, this makes the skin plumper and lifts it so that it isn’t as close to the blood vessels and therefore the under-eye area does not look as dark and the eyes lose any sunken appearance they have.

As the treatment is non-surgical, you will not have to undergo any general anaesthetic or take time out for recovery time, there is also no risk of scarring or stitches. You will notice a difference straight away and the effects last for around 12 months. After then you can decide whether or not you would like the treatment repeated.

Dermal Fillers for the Under-eye Area

If you have uneven skin tone, dark pigmentation the beginnings of fine lines, open pores or dull, lifeless skin, the best course of action can be to undertake deep exfoliation in the form of a skin peel. One of the skin peel treatments that we offer at the London Cosmetic Clinic is the Obagi Nu-Derm system, a range of prescription strength products that help repair the skin at a cellular level, erase signs of premature aging and speed up the skin’s renewal process.

The Obagi Nu-Derm system was developed by renowned dermatologist Dr Zein E.Obagi in 1988 and, due to its strength and the importance of correct application, it can only be administered by clinics with a special license. The products are carefully administered to ensure that the right pH level is achieved and that the best possible results are obtained. As with all of our treatments, you will have a free consultation first so we can assess the condition of your skin and discuss your desired results.

The first phase of the treatment involves using the products to remove the top few layers of skin. It penetrates the skin and encourages it to shed its top layers, taking along impurities and signs of damage with it. You may notice that your skin feels tighter and slightly itchy during this phase. This first stage lasts approximately 6 to 8 weeks but you may start to notice a difference within 4 to 6 weeks. As the skin produces new skin cells, it also produces more collagen and elastin and is more evenly pigmented, so your skin is smoother, bouncier and flawless looking.

During treatment, we recommend that you use an SPF of at least 30 and avoid excess UV exposure as this can damage the skin further. We also prescribe an aftercare routine so you get the best possible results and your skin continues to look younger and more even. The Obagi Nu-Derm System

Your eyes can be the biggest indicator of your age and, as the skin surrounding the eyes is the thinnest of the entire body, it is more susceptible to premature aging. The tear through, directly underneath your eyes, can start to look hollow and sunken and can develop dark circles as the skin ages and loses its elasticity. At the London Cosmetic Clinic we can improve the appearance of the under eye area with the use of Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers.
Hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally in the body and gives skin smoothness and plumpness by retaining water. We use a synthetically created Hyaluronic acid that is free from any animal or human products, is biocompatible and biodegradable and acts in the exact same way as the Hyaluronic acid found in the skin. This is injected into the under eye area in small amounts and then massaged into place.
As well as plumping out fine lines and wrinkles and making the tear trough of the eye look less sunken, our dermal fillers can also reduce the appearance of dark under eye circles as it creates a small cushion between the uppermost layers of the skin and the veins and thus they are less visible.
Our dermal filler treatments are non-invasive and do not require general anaesthetic or down time for recovery but we can use a numbing cream at the start of the treatment to minimise discomfort and recommend that you do not touch the treated area afterwards and avoid strenuous exercise for the following 24 hours. Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are a great way of subtly rejuvenating the eye area without resorting to drastic surgery. Dermal Fillers for the Under Eye Area

Whether your skin is greasy and unbalanced, dull and lifeless, showing the legacy of years or acne or even starting to develop fine lines, exfoliation is the key to revealing smoother, younger-looking, healthier skin. When a quick scrub isn’t quite passing muster, you can choose to have a chemical peel to remove the upper layers of the skin that are covered in dead skin cells, grease and other impurities.

At the London Cosmetic Clinic we have several types of skin peels to remove dead skin cells and impurities. We use safe, clinically-tested, carefully controlled chemicals including Trichloroacetic acid and Glycolic acid and can we can help determine the best type of skin peel for you depending on your skin type and its condition. These peels will work as superficially as the very top layer of the skin down to the middle layers, where some skin damage can reach.

Skin peels prompt these top layers of the skin peel off, removing any impurities and making the way for fresh, younger-looking new skin cells. Due to the nature of the treatment, we recommend that you allow yourself plenty of time between the treatment and any big events- remember the episode of ‘Sex and the City’ when Samantha had a skin peel RIGHT before a huge night out?! Whilst your skin is repairing itself it is important to take precautions against UV damage, which is a good habit to get into after you skin has renewed itself. There are plenty of moisturisers available with an SPF in them but when it is sunnier you will need to use a separate sunscreen as well, you can get specific ones for your face so you can protect your skin without looking greasy and whilst being able to wear makeup.

Straight after your skin peel you may feel your skin feels taught and therefore less saggy, but the real improvements come in several weeks’ time after the old skin has peeled off and the new cells start to come through. Due to the nature of the treatment, they aren’t something that you would have every week but they are fantastic for giving your skin an overhaul in the run-up to a wedding, special birthday or to boost your confidence.

Should I try a Skin Peel?

People spend a lot of time and money on topical treatments trying to reverse the effects of sun damage, lifestyle choices and gravity on their skin but sometimes something more drastic is required to make a noticeable difference.  The traditional facelift used to be considered the only option to tauten and lift skin but these involve invasive surgery, a recovery period and bruising, as well as the tell-tale ‘gathering behind the ears’.  At the London Cosmetic Clinic we specialise in a range of innovative solutions that are not only non-invasive and effective but give natural looking results and encourage the skin tissue to repair itself so your skin is given a whole new lease of life.

The first recorded facelift was performed back in 1901in Berlin, Germany and involved literally lifting a woman’s skin and cutting off the excess. This led to further developments in plastic surgery innovations, especially in facial reconstruction. These developments included operating on the deeper layers of the skin and muscle tissue as well as focusing on different areas of the face. Even with developments in surgery techniques, these surgical facelifts are still not without risks, for example skin necrosis, bleeding and scarring.

Fast-forward to today and cosmetic surgery has made even more leaps and bounds. For example, we offer the silhouette thread facelift which lifts the skin, like a traditional facelift would but involves using extremely fine threads which dissolve over time instead of scalpels and staples and doesn’t require going under general anaesthetic.

Several signs of aging occur when the production of collagen, which gives skin its bounce and elasticity, dwindles. As well as being a normal part of the aging process, this can also be caused by lifestyle choices such as smoking, excess sun exposure and an unhealthy diet. Several of our treatments such as the Dermaroller and the Vampire facelift, which involves harvesting the client’s own plasma and blood platelets and reinjecting them, kick start the skin’s natural healing process and production of collagen. This means that the results are natural yet noticeable as well as being an ongoing improvement in the condition of the skin.

The Changing Face of Changing Faces

Your skin is made up of many different layers, the outer most of which is the epidermis; this can thin with age and lose its plumpness, leading to a saggy appearance around the face, usually around the jaw line and cheeks. Some people are more prone to this than others due to various factors such as genetics and weight fluctuations and it is extremely hard to fix this with exercises and topical treatments so surgery is often the only option.

We are extremely excited to be able to offer the innovative Silhouette Soft face lift, also known as the ‘lunch break face lift’ as it takes just 30 minutes. Unlike old fashioned face lifts, the Silhouette Soft face lift doesn’t require invasive surgery, looks natural, doesn’t require any recovery time and encourages the skin to heal itself.

Developed in the USA and based off of the suture suspension that is sometimes used in reconstructive surgery, the Silhouette soft face lift uses bidirectional absorbable thread cones to lift the skin and instantly make it look younger, plumper and smoother. It can be used on the eyebrows, jaw, cheeks and cheekbones as well as the contours of your face and the neck, an area that a lot of other treatments cannot help. The threads are inserted 3-5mm under the skin’s surface after a local anaesthetic has been administered and these dissolve over time. As well as the instant lifting effect, the thread face lift encourages the skin to produce its own collagen as the threads are made from polylactic acid which is biocompatible with human skin and stimulates the deeper layers of the skin.

The results last around 18 months and you can achieve a lifted and rejuvenated appearance that looks natural without cuts or scarring and without undergoing invasive surgery or having down time afterwards.

What is the Silhouette Soft Face Lift?

One of the most popular cosmetic procedures throughout the world is Botox injections; they’re non-invasive, start to give results within 72 hours, don’t require recovery time after being administered and are temporary so you can decide if you want the treatment redone once the effects fade or not.

Botox is made from the neurotoxin botulinum toxin dissolved in a saline solution. Whilst the prospect of having a poison injected into your face may seem scary, the injections are very safe when administered by a professional and side effects and adverse reactions are very rare. The Botox relaxes the muscle tissue meaning that visible lines caused on the skin from excess muscle movement, for example from frowning, are smoothed out and the skin appears more youthful and toned.

Before the procedure takes place, you will be assessed for suitability. Botox is suitable for the majority of skin types and ages, but you may not be suitable to have the treatment if you have certain allergies or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your practitioner will also assess where the injections will be effective and how much of a dose you will need, for example a man will often require a larger dose than a woman due to the difference in muscle tissue thickness and strength.

You may be given an ice pack or topical anaesthetic to numb the area you are having injected and the procedure is relatively pain free as the needles used are so fine. After your Botox is administered, you should avoid rubbing or touching your skin and applying makeup for the next 4 hours. You may not see a result instantly, but you will gradually see a difference over the course of the next few days and will be able to see the full result after two weeks.

The total treatment time is very quick and can be easily slotted into a busy schedule and, when administered by a professional, looks natural and rejuvenating. Our trained practitioners will not administer excess or unnecessary amounts of Botox so you can avoid the ‘permanently surprised’ or waxy look that can come from overdoing it. It is the perfect treatment for giving yourself a confidence boost and taking years off of your appearance.
