Thread veins can appear on our legs for a variety of reasons such as poor circulation, alcohol
consumption, carrying extra weight or simply being stood up for a long time for a prolonged period
and they can look particularly prominent if you have very fair skin. Whilst there are a few things you
can do to try to prevent them from appearing, none of which are guaranteed to work, you can erase
them at the London Cosmetic Clinic with the use of IPL treatment.

Short for intense pulsed light, we use IPL treatment for various treatments at our Knightsbridge-
based clinic including skin rejuvenation and minimising skin pigmentation. The light rays from the
device create a thermal reaction in the skin which cauterises the broken capillaries that make up
thread veins. As less blood flows to these broken capillaries, they start to fade and the thread veins
disappear. Straight after your IPL session your skin may appear redder but this will quickly calm
down as your skin recovers. We recommend that you use SPF 35 or higher as your skin will be
temporarily more susceptible to UV damage.

You may need several sessions depending on the severity of your thread veins and this will be
discussed at your consultation. We also use this technique to remove other areas of redness such as
port wine stains and hyperpigmentation. To find out more about thread vein removal or any of our
other treatments, contact us today to book a consultation.

Thread Vein Removal with IPL Treatment

We all need sunshine for Vitamin D that keeps our bones and immune system healthy and for a mood boost but too much UV exposure can damage the skin and cause premature aging. We can reverse some of these signs of skin aging such as freckles, age spots and loss of elasticity with ntense Pulsed Light treatment.

Intense Pulsed Light treatment, or IPL for short, works in several ways to reverse the signs of aging-

-The light impulses create a heat reaction in melanin in the skin so excess amounts are broken down and passed through the system. This helps to fade age spots and freckles.

-Broken capillaries are cauterised so less blood flows to thread veins and red patches. This, over time, fades them so the complexion is more even.

-It kickstarts the skin’s natural healing process so more collagen is produced and the overall condition of the skin is improved.

We use the most precise and powerful IPL system available and the treatment is non-invasive and doesn’t require stitches, scalpels or recovery time. We advise that you avoid too much UV exposure for a month or two prior to treatment as the system works better on fairer skin and when there’s more of a colour contrast between the skin and any imperfections. This will also help minimise further damage and we advise that you use an SPF of at least 30 afterwards. Pain sensation will vary from person to person but many compare it to being flicked by an elastic band and your skin may feel slightly red and burned afterwards.

IPL treatment is an effective and safe way of rejuvenating your skin. If you would like to know more about this or any of our other rejuvenation treatments, contact us today to speak to a member of our team.

Skin Rejuvenation with IPL Treatment
Ellipse IPL Treatment for Hair Removal

As summer approaches and more skin is on show, a lot of us are looking for hassle-free ways of
removing body hair. At the London Cosmetic Clinic we deliver quick, long-term hair removal without
chemicals, irritation or ingrown hairs thanks to Ellipse IPL treatment.

We use Intense Pulsed Light, or IPL for short, treatment for various different treatments including
hair removal as it is quick, effective and gives predictable results. It gives the best results when there
is a great colour contrast, e.g. pale skin with dark hairs. When the body hair is exposed to the
wavelengths of light, the pigment within it absorbs the light and converts it to heat, destroying the
follicle and preventing it from producing a replacement hair. The result is fewer, lighter and finer
hair in the treated area.

Prior to treatment we advise that you refrain from tweezing, waxing or plucking hairs for 4 weeks so
there are plenty of hair follicles to treat and afterwards protect your skin from UV exposure as it will
be more susceptible to damage. You may need around 6 sessions to reach your final desired result
with each session spaced a month or two apart. Your skin may be slightly red and sore, like being
sun-burnt, directly after your session but once your skin recovers you may find that it’s in even
better condition.

Ellipse IPL Treatment for Hair Removal
NORDLYS Ellipse Treatment for Nail Fungus

Nail fungus can be a really persistent problem and can occur on the fingernails as well as the toenails. It can become more common with age, in those with diabetes or circulation problems and, with toenails, those who do regular exercise or use communal showers and changing areas. You can of course get antifungal nail paints and oral medication but some people find that they get unpleasant side effects such as nausea and headaches. At the London Cosmetic Clinic we can treat nail fungus without chemicals or medication with the use of the Ellipse Nordlys system.
Using a very precise form of laser, we treat the whole nail with flashes of infrared light. This destroys the fungus by creating a heat reaction and we use a series of flashes that are overlapped and repeated to ensure that we have treated the entire nail. No fungus will be able to lurk around! The treatment only takes 15 minutes and you will probably need 3-4 sessions, each spaced about a fortnight apart plus a follow-up appointment.
If you have spotted yellow streaks on and underneath your nails, discoloured and thickened nails, nails that have become brittle or, as the infection progresses, a powdery appearance on the nail surface, you may have nail fungus. The Ellipse Nordlys Onychomychosis treatment is very effective at removing nail fungus but it doesn’t prevent it from appearing again in the future. You can protect yourself from nail fungus reoccurring by drying your feet thoroughly, wearing breathable socks and shoes, wearing flip flops in communal showers, using antibacterial soap when washing your hands and always cutting your toenails in a straight line.
If you have nail fungus that is proving stubborn to treat, contact us to arrange a free consultation. There is no need to be embarrassed and you’ll be back in peep toe shoes in no time!

NORDLYS Ellipse Treatment for Nail Fungus

Summer is here and that means revealing clothes, sunny holidays and weddings so, understandably, you’re more likely to consider cosmetic treatments to ensure that you look good for special occasions and to boost your confidence. Most treatments require some recovery time for your skin afterwards and may take a few days to see results so you need to consider this when deciding what treatments to have done.

For example, many people choose to have Botox injections before weddings and other big celebrations to smooth out fine lines so that they look their best in photographs as well as injections for excess sweating so they do not ruin their outfits or makeup but you shouldn’t wait until the day before to get them done. Botox injections take 2-3 days to start to work and around 7-10 days to see the full effect so you need to plan ahead to make sure your skin looks fantastic for the big day. Likewise, semi-permanent makeup is great for holidays as you don’t have to worry about your makeup smudging in the hot weather or running in the pool as well as not having to pack as much makeup with you. It does however require a few days’ healing time as well as 1-2 weeks for the pigment to settle down to its final colour so shouldn’t be left to the last minute before you jet off!

As well as just timing your treatment so that you get the best final results in time for a special occasion, certain skin rejuvenation treatments such as IPL skin rejuvenation and chemical skin peels can leave the skin more vulnerable to UV damage whilst it recovers and heals itself. If you do go sunbathing or get too much sun exposure straight after a treatment it can make your tan come out patchy and give you uneven pigmentation. It is always recommended that you use a high SPF sunscreen after these kind of treatments and this is good practice to keep up after your skin has fully healed so that you don’t run the risk of prematurely aged skin.

When you have your consultation you should let your practitioner know if you are about to go on holiday or if you are having the treatment done in preparation for a special event so that they can advise you on scheduling it to get the best final results in time as well as your post-treatment care. Make this summer your most beautiful ever!

What Treatments Can I Have During Summer?

Many people of all ages suffer from acne and whilst a healthy diet and good skincare regime can help, the major underlying cause is hormones. When too much of the hormone androgen is products by the body it causes the sebaceous glands to produce too much oil which then blocks hair follicles in the skin. This can result in blackheads, whiteheads and, in some cases, cysts. Acne can clear up with age and with a good skincare regime but sometimes it can take a lot longer to go and can even cause scarring. At  The London Cosmetic Clinic we use the Ellipse IPL system for a number of purposes including the removal of the most severe types of acne.

IPL is short for Intense Pulsed Light and it has a number of different effects on the body as the varying wave lengths react with pigment in the skin. It treats acne in two ways; firstly, it causes a photodynamic reaction and releases a free radical singular oxygen molecule that destroys acne-causing bacteria. Secondly, the absorbed light heats the capillaries and reduces blood flow to the sebaceous glands, meaning that they produce less oil and therefore less acne.

The Ellipse IPL system works on three of the most severe types of acne-

Acne Rosacea- an inflammation of the skin on the face, neck and chest that gives a ruddy complexion and causes soreness. It can start with flushes then gradually worsen to permanent redness.

Acne Vulgaris- spots, blackheads and lesions caused by blocked glands. This is the most typical form of acne.

Acne Conglobata- pustules and inflamed bumps on the back, buttocks and chest. These can be painful as well as leading to bacterial infections and scarring.

If you have any of these types of acne, book a consultation so we can assess your skin for its suitability and give you an obligation free patch test. Prior to treatment we recommend that you use a medicinal acne cream such as Differin or Redap and avoid excess sun exposure for 30 days. After the treatment your skin may feel slightly red and sore but this will subside as the skin heals itself and again you must avoid sun exposure for 30 days. It is recommended that you use an SPF of at least 30 and continue to use the acne cream to get rid of any remaining bacteria.

Ellipse IPL treatment can help to clear acne in as little as 4 sessions and reduce the risk of scarring and infections. Once you have completed your course of sessions, you will have visibly clearer, smoother skin and it is important that you keep up a good skincare regime and protect your skin from excess sun exposure.

Removing Acne with IPL Treatment

Every year in the UK we spend thousands of pounds on products that promise to give more youthful skin but unfortunately topical treatments sometimes just don’t deliver.  We can, however, offer effective results without invasive treatment in the form of IPL skin rejuvenation.

Short for intense pulsed light, IPL treatment involves using different wavelengths of light emitted from a flash lamp to cause a heat reaction and break down melanin in the skin. These help to reverse several signs of skin damage such as dark patches, hyper-pigmentation and freckles as the heat reaction breaks down protein in the melanin cell walls to destroy it, coagulates blood vessels and encourages the production of collagen, which is needed for elastic, supple skin. This results in more even looking, smoother and more youthful looking skin and reverses some of the effects of years of sun exposure.

Before you have your treatment, it is recommended that you avoid sun bathing, sun beds and fake tan as this can stop the treatment from being as effective. It is also important that you use sun screen with an SPF factor of at least 30 afterwards to prevent any potential damage to your skin whilst it is more sensitive post-treatment. Your skin may look slightly darker after the treatment and highly pigmented areas may appear to have a slight crust but this will soon heal and your skin will start to appear lighter. If you have particularly sensitive skin you may want to apply some aloe vera gel after your treatment.

Choosing IPL skin rejuvenation treatment means that you have predictable and reliable results plus your skin is encouraged to heal itself after the treatment as it stimulates collagen production. As there are no harsh chemical used, unlike applying a topical treatment, there is far less risk of an adverse reaction. Your consultant will discuss with you how IPL skin rejuvenation can help you and how many treatment sessions you will need. You will soon be able to enjoy more even and more youthful looking skin.

22-1

IPL Skin Rejuvenation

For many of us, hair removal is a tedious and time-consuming part of a regular beauty regime but at the London Cosmetic Clinic we offer IPL hair removal which is both quick and convenient. IPL, short for intense pulsed light, hair removal is a relatively new treatment that utilises a range of different wavelengths emitted from a flash lamp to reduce hairs. It is relatively cheaper than laser treatment and the variation in the wavelengths means that it can also be used for other skin issues such as acne treatment and repairing sun-damaged skin. This method is called Selective Photothermolysis.

During the treatment, the pigment within each hair absorbs the light emitted from the IPL device and converts it into heat. This then destroys the follicle and prevents a new hair from growing in its place. Whilst other salons may recommend that it is used on dark hair and fair skin, we use the specialised Ellipse system which gives great results on various skin and hair tones.

IPL hair removal can be used on various areas of the body and face. For example, it can be used on the upper lip instead of hair removal creams, which have an unpleasant smell and can cause sensitivities or it can be used on the bikini area as a less painful alternative to waxing. It isn’t a permanent hair removal system but does reduce the hair so regrowth is much less thick and less noticeable. It also leaves your skin feeling softer, unlike other hair removal treatments such as shaving which can cause dryness and irritation.

As regrowth is far slower and less noticeable than typical hair removal options, you only need one session every four to eight weeks. You don’t risk ingrown hairs or irritation and will be pleasantly surprised with your rejuvenated smooth, silky skin.
