At the London Cosmetic Clinic in Knightsbridge we love staying on top of all the latest trends in the world of beauty and skincare so we can deliver the best treatments and products to you. One such treatment, enjoyed by celebrity Kim Kardashian, is our “Vampire facelift” which involves using the client’s own blood to help make the skin look and feel younger.

Platelet Rich Plasma therapy, or a “Vampire facelift” is used in other areas such as sport medicine to improve wound healing and utilises the growth factors in blood platelets. The treatment is non-invasive, scalpel free and is completely chemical free. A small amount of blood, usually between 40ml to 360 ml, is removed from the client and then treated in centrifuge, so is spun around at an extremely fast pace until the blood separates into is components. At our clinic, we use the Angel PRP system to separate the concentrated platelets from blood. The system is one of the most latest advanced machines that could process much more amount of blood than the other system which could process only 10-40 ml, and as a result provides more amount of platelet rich plasma. The platelet-rich plasma is then reinjected into the chosen areas and the growth factors in it encourage the cells surrounding that area to multiply in number, so the skin appears plumper and more volumised and collagen product is encouraged. As well as improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, this treatment can also effectively help promote hair growth and reverse minor scar damage and other skin imperfections.

The treatment takes between 60-90 minutes and prior to this we will remove any makeup, use an antiseptic wipe to minimise any risk of infection and apply a topical numbing agent. We advise that you stay hydrated and eat well before your appointment so that it is easier for your blood to be withdrawn. The treatment can be used over the body, including the décolletage, backs of hands and knees, as well as your face and at your consultation we can discuss what areas you would like treated and determine how many sessions you will require.

The Vampire Facelift at The London Cosmetic Clinic

Even when we take care of our faces and bodies our hands can still show the signs of premature aging and appear much younger than you are. At the London Cosmetic Clinic we can make your
hands look youthful again with the use of high quality dermal fillers.

There are two main fillers that we use on the hands and they both have different effects. The first is Juvederm which is based on syntheticallycreated, biocompatible Hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic
acid is a compound that is naturally found in the skin and attracts water so, when used on the skin, it makes it more moisturised and regain its bounce. This can help improve the appearance of
crepey looking skin on the backs of the hands. The other dermal filler used is Radiesse, which contains tiny beads of calcium hydroxylapatite in a gel. This is injected as a ball and then massaged into

the grooves of your hands to provide a ‘scaffolding’ in boney, sinewy hands that have lost their fat padding. This also encourages the skin to produce more collagen so the condition of the skin is                                                 improved. The effects last up to 2 years.

Prior to your treatment we will numb the area to minimise any discomfort and afterwards you will not have to take any down time to recover but we do recommend that you keep the area clean
with plain water and avoid products like perfumed soap and hand cream to avoid irritation. You should also avoid vitamin E, arnica, St.John’s wort and aspirin and ibuprofen to avoid swelling. If
you would like younger looking hands and are considering Juvederm or Radiesse treatments, contact us today to book your free consultation.

Hand Rejuvenation with Dermal Fillers

Photos from Kim Kardashian’s Instagram went viral yet again when she posted a photo of herself undergoing a ‘Vampire Facelift’. This A-Lister approved anti-aging treatment involves using the patient’s own blood removed, processed and then re-injected into the skin and is available now at our clinic in Knightsbridge.

Also known as Platelet Rich Plasma therapy, it involves using the platelets from the blood which are high in growth factors, special proteins that enable the body to heal itself. It has been used for years in surgery to boost the body’s healing power, in dentistry and to help treat burns and skin injuries. We have found that it delivers fantastic age-reversing results by plumping and smoothing lines and wrinkles.

The great advantage of this treatment is that it is completely natural as it uses the patient’s own blood and therefore has no risk of adverse side effects. Your skin may feel slightly sore straight after the treatment but this will soon subside.

To find out more about this or any of our other treatments, contact us today to speak to one of our friendly and knowledgeable team members.

What is a Vampire Facelift?

As time goes by our skin starts to display signs of aging, some of which are easier to hide than others. One such sign of aging is fine lines around the nose and the mouth which cannot be disguised with makeup and can appear worse due to several factors such as lifestyle, UV exposure and excess use of the facial muscles. At the London Cosmetic Clinic we specialise in anti-aging solutions using the very best filler products on the market.

The dermal fillers we primarily use for lines around the nose and mouth are Restylane and Juvederm. These are both sterile gels that aren’t animal or human derived and consist of hyaluronic acid. As hyaluronic acid is naturally found in the body, it is biocompatible and highly unlikely to cause an adverse reaction. It is also biodegradable, unlike surgically implanted fillers. As well as just plumping out the skin, hyaluronic acid gives the skin elasticity and doesn’t give the rigid, ‘sticking out’ effect of implanted fillers.

Before your procedure we will assess your face, the depth and position of the lines and discuss your desired results. We typically treat marionette lines, smokers’ lines, drooping mouth corners and nose-to-mouth lines but as everyone’s face is different, we tailor the treatment precisely to you, both in where the fillers are injected and the amount used. On the day of your treatment a numbing agent will be applied 15-30 minutes beforehand and you can hold a hand mirror whilst the filler is injected so you have complete control of your results.

There are so many benefits of using hyaluronic-based fillers for diminishing the appearance of lines and wrinkles; it is naturally found in the body so there is very little chance of a reaction, it is flexible, it is biodegradable so over time will disappear and it’s a non-invasive treatment so you have no scars, no anaesthetic and no prolonged recovery time. Our dermal fillers give a renewed youth around the nose and mouth areas and the results can last up to 18 months. After then, it’s up to you whether you have the treatment repeated or not.

Erasing Facial Lines and Wrinkles with Dermal Fillers.

Hyperpigmentation can take many forms including freckles, patches of discolouration and certain kinds of scars and the majority of them are caused by excess melanin in the skin. If your hyperpigmentation makes you feel too self—conscious to wear revealing clothing or you find that you’re hiding behind makeup every day, we have a variety of treatments to give you more even looking skin and help to make you feel more self-confident.

The two main categories that hyperpigmentation treatments fall into are topical treatments and chemical peels.

Topical treatments include Hydroquinone, which bleaches the excess melanin in the skin and Retin-A, a prescription strength retinoid derived from Vitamin A which helps to exfoliate skin and speed up the cell renewal process.

If you want more drastic results and have the time to allow your skin to recover, we also offer the Obagi Blue system, a medium depth chemical peel that uses Tricloroacetic Acid to encourage several layers of skin to shed themselves and make way for fresh new skin. After your chemical peel your skin may look red and feel a bit tight, but this will subside and you will soon see brand new, radiant skin that is more evenly pigmented.

For some hyperpigmentation, another option to consider is IPL treatment. This is short for ‘intense pulsed light’ and involves using varying frequencies of light waves from a hand held device to cause a thermogenic reaction in the melanin in the skin. This helps to remove dark spots such as age spots and freckles and cauterise broken blood capillaries that cause spider veins and port wine stains.

After any hyperpigmentation treatment it is important that you look after your skin and use UV protection. At your initial consultation we will discuss the best course of action for your individual circumstances and afterwards we will advise you on the right aftercare procedure. If you would like to know any more about hyperpigmentation treatments or any of our other treatments, you can contact us on 0203 581 3391, our friendly, knowledgeable team are more than happy to answer any queries.

How to Treat Hyperpigmentation

Whether your skin is greasy and unbalanced, dull and lifeless, showing the legacy of years or acne or even starting to develop fine lines, exfoliation is the key to revealing smoother, younger-looking, healthier skin. When a quick scrub isn’t quite passing muster, you can choose to have a chemical peel to remove the upper layers of the skin that are covered in dead skin cells, grease and other impurities.

At the London Cosmetic Clinic we have several types of skin peels to remove dead skin cells and impurities. We use safe, clinically-tested, carefully controlled chemicals including Trichloroacetic acid and Glycolic acid and can we can help determine the best type of skin peel for you depending on your skin type and its condition. These peels will work as superficially as the very top layer of the skin down to the middle layers, where some skin damage can reach.

Skin peels prompt these top layers of the skin peel off, removing any impurities and making the way for fresh, younger-looking new skin cells. Due to the nature of the treatment, we recommend that you allow yourself plenty of time between the treatment and any big events- remember the episode of ‘Sex and the City’ when Samantha had a skin peel RIGHT before a huge night out?! Whilst your skin is repairing itself it is important to take precautions against UV damage, which is a good habit to get into after you skin has renewed itself. There are plenty of moisturisers available with an SPF in them but when it is sunnier you will need to use a separate sunscreen as well, you can get specific ones for your face so you can protect your skin without looking greasy and whilst being able to wear makeup.

Straight after your skin peel you may feel your skin feels taught and therefore less saggy, but the real improvements come in several weeks’ time after the old skin has peeled off and the new cells start to come through. Due to the nature of the treatment, they aren’t something that you would have every week but they are fantastic for giving your skin an overhaul in the run-up to a wedding, special birthday or to boost your confidence.

Should I try a Skin Peel?

Your skin is made up of many different layers, the outer most of which is the epidermis; this can thin with age and lose its plumpness, leading to a saggy appearance around the face, usually around the jaw line and cheeks. Some people are more prone to this than others due to various factors such as genetics and weight fluctuations and it is extremely hard to fix this with exercises and topical treatments so surgery is often the only option.

We are extremely excited to be able to offer the innovative Silhouette Soft face lift, also known as the ‘lunch break face lift’ as it takes just 30 minutes. Unlike old fashioned face lifts, the Silhouette Soft face lift doesn’t require invasive surgery, looks natural, doesn’t require any recovery time and encourages the skin to heal itself.

Developed in the USA and based off of the suture suspension that is sometimes used in reconstructive surgery, the Silhouette soft face lift uses bidirectional absorbable thread cones to lift the skin and instantly make it look younger, plumper and smoother. It can be used on the eyebrows, jaw, cheeks and cheekbones as well as the contours of your face and the neck, an area that a lot of other treatments cannot help. The threads are inserted 3-5mm under the skin’s surface after a local anaesthetic has been administered and these dissolve over time. As well as the instant lifting effect, the thread face lift encourages the skin to produce its own collagen as the threads are made from polylactic acid which is biocompatible with human skin and stimulates the deeper layers of the skin.

The results last around 18 months and you can achieve a lifted and rejuvenated appearance that looks natural without cuts or scarring and without undergoing invasive surgery or having down time afterwards.

What is the Silhouette Soft Face Lift?

As we get older, our skin naturally ages too but some of us are concerned that the effects of premature aging are adding years to our appearance. Every day some of your skin cells die and are replaced by new ones but this process can get slowed down when the skin is damaged by excess sun exposure. This leads to premature aging, signs of which include fine lines and wrinkles, age spots (also known as liver spots), hyperpigmentation, a sallow complexion, roughness and unevenness, redness in the skin and loss of elasticity.

At the London Cosmetic Clinic we specialise in making you look amazing and are proud to be able to offer the Omagi skin care system, which is very effective and has a reputation for giving great results. Developed back in 1988 by acclaimed dermatologist Dr Zein.E Omagi and a team of other leading experts, the Omagi skin care system is a range of pharmaceutical strength products that penetrate the deeper layers of your skin and encourage your skin to shed old, dead cells and replace them with new cells, resulting in fresh, smooth, rejuvenated skin.
Whilst some websites may claim to sell Omagi skincare products, you cannot guarantee that they are the genuine article as they can only be sold through licensed professionals, which is why it is available to go to a specialist cosmetic clinic such as ourselves. We also thoroughly assess your skin and advise you how to use the system safely and effectively.

As it is a prescription-strength treatment that effectively works as a skin peel, you may experience some redness, itchiness and dryness as the skin rids itself of old, dead skin cells. You will start to see results within 6 weeks and you will need to visit us for follow up appointments to assess and monitor the progression of your skin. It is very important that you use a very high SPF sunscreen both during treatment and after to prevent any damage to your skin.

The various Omagi systems can be used alone or with each other and during your assessment we will advise the best course of action. The result is smoother, more evenly pigmented skin that looks younger and fresher. You can continue to use the products to maintain the condition of your skin.

The Omagi Radiance Peel

Every year in the UK we spend thousands of pounds on products that promise to give more youthful skin but unfortunately topical treatments sometimes just don’t deliver.  We can, however, offer effective results without invasive treatment in the form of IPL skin rejuvenation.

Short for intense pulsed light, IPL treatment involves using different wavelengths of light emitted from a flash lamp to cause a heat reaction and break down melanin in the skin. These help to reverse several signs of skin damage such as dark patches, hyper-pigmentation and freckles as the heat reaction breaks down protein in the melanin cell walls to destroy it, coagulates blood vessels and encourages the production of collagen, which is needed for elastic, supple skin. This results in more even looking, smoother and more youthful looking skin and reverses some of the effects of years of sun exposure.

Before you have your treatment, it is recommended that you avoid sun bathing, sun beds and fake tan as this can stop the treatment from being as effective. It is also important that you use sun screen with an SPF factor of at least 30 afterwards to prevent any potential damage to your skin whilst it is more sensitive post-treatment. Your skin may look slightly darker after the treatment and highly pigmented areas may appear to have a slight crust but this will soon heal and your skin will start to appear lighter. If you have particularly sensitive skin you may want to apply some aloe vera gel after your treatment.

Choosing IPL skin rejuvenation treatment means that you have predictable and reliable results plus your skin is encouraged to heal itself after the treatment as it stimulates collagen production. As there are no harsh chemical used, unlike applying a topical treatment, there is far less risk of an adverse reaction. Your consultant will discuss with you how IPL skin rejuvenation can help you and how many treatment sessions you will need. You will soon be able to enjoy more even and more youthful looking skin.

IPL Skin Rejuvenation

One of the most popular cosmetic procedures throughout the world is Botox injections; they’re non-invasive, start to give results within 72 hours, don’t require recovery time after being administered and are temporary so you can decide if you want the treatment redone once the effects fade or not.

Botox is made from the neurotoxin botulinum toxin dissolved in a saline solution. Whilst the prospect of having a poison injected into your face may seem scary, the injections are very safe when administered by a professional and side effects and adverse reactions are very rare. The Botox relaxes the muscle tissue meaning that visible lines caused on the skin from excess muscle movement, for example from frowning, are smoothed out and the skin appears more youthful and toned.

Before the procedure takes place, you will be assessed for suitability. Botox is suitable for the majority of skin types and ages, but you may not be suitable to have the treatment if you have certain allergies or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your practitioner will also assess where the injections will be effective and how much of a dose you will need, for example a man will often require a larger dose than a woman due to the difference in muscle tissue thickness and strength.

You may be given an ice pack or topical anaesthetic to numb the area you are having injected and the procedure is relatively pain free as the needles used are so fine. After your Botox is administered, you should avoid rubbing or touching your skin and applying makeup for the next 4 hours. You may not see a result instantly, but you will gradually see a difference over the course of the next few days and will be able to see the full result after two weeks.

The total treatment time is very quick and can be easily slotted into a busy schedule and, when administered by a professional, looks natural and rejuvenating. Our trained practitioners will not administer excess or unnecessary amounts of Botox so you can avoid the ‘permanently surprised’ or waxy look that can come from overdoing it. It is the perfect treatment for giving yourself a confidence boost and taking years off of your appearance.
