The Changing Face of Changing Faces

Published on: July 28, 2015

People spend a lot of time and money on topical treatments trying to reverse the effects of sun damage, lifestyle choices and gravity on their skin but sometimes something more drastic is required to make a noticeable difference.  The traditional facelift used to be considered the only option to tauten and lift skin but these involve invasive surgery, a recovery period and bruising, as well as the tell-tale ‘gathering behind the ears’.  At the London Cosmetic Clinic we specialise in a range of innovative solutions that are not only non-invasive and effective but give natural looking results and encourage the skin tissue to repair itself so your skin is given a whole new lease of life.

The first recorded facelift was performed back in 1901in Berlin, Germany and involved literally lifting a woman’s skin and cutting off the excess. This led to further developments in plastic surgery innovations, especially in facial reconstruction. These developments included operating on the deeper layers of the skin and muscle tissue as well as focusing on different areas of the face. Even with developments in surgery techniques, these surgical facelifts are still not without risks, for example skin necrosis, bleeding and scarring.

Fast-forward to today and cosmetic surgery has made even more leaps and bounds. For example, we offer the silhouette thread facelift which lifts the skin, like a traditional facelift would but involves using extremely fine threads which dissolve over time instead of scalpels and staples and doesn’t require going under general anaesthetic.

Several signs of aging occur when the production of collagen, which gives skin its bounce and elasticity, dwindles. As well as being a normal part of the aging process, this can also be caused by lifestyle choices such as smoking, excess sun exposure and an unhealthy diet. Several of our treatments such as the Dermaroller and the Vampire facelift, which involves harvesting the client’s own plasma and blood platelets and reinjecting them, kick start the skin’s natural healing process and production of collagen. This means that the results are natural yet noticeable as well as being an ongoing improvement in the condition of the skin.
