One of the most sought after cosmetic procedures is rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, and people seek these out for various reasons, such as reshaping the bridge of their nose or lifting the tip. At the London Cosmetic Clinic we have had great success reshaping and defining noses without scalpels or stiches with our non-surgical rhinoplasty.

We use high-quality dermal fillers to correct various imperfections such as a flat bridge, slight bumps on the bridge of the nose or lack of definition from previous surgical rhinoplasty. Prior to your treatment, you will have a free consultation so we can assess your nose and explore possible results. You do not require general anaesthetic for dermal filler treatments but we can apply a numbing agent to minimise any discomfort. The dermal filler is then injected in small amounts and massaged into place; this process takes about 15 minutes to complete. During the treatment you are awake and can hold a mirror so that you are in complete control of your results.

As it is a non-invasive treatment, you can go home straight after your procedure and do not require any recovery time, we do however advise that you avoid strenuous activity post-treatment to minimise the risk of bruising. The results are immediate and last 6-12 months before the dermal filler is naturally broken down and passed through your system. You can then decide whether or not you would like the treatment repeated.

Reshaping your Nose with Dermal Fillers

Your eyebrows can transform the entire appearance of your face, highlighting the bone structure and enhancing other features. Not everybody has thick, lush eyebrows like Cara DeLevine due to over-plucking, hair loss or fair colourings so if you’re tired of pencilling your eyebrows every day, you can have micropigmentation treatment at the London Cosmetic Clinic to give you semi-permanent defined, attractive eyebrows.

Unlike the old method of tattooing eyebrows which left people with thick, edged brows, we use tiny amounts of pigment and work with your natural colourings and face shape to achieve a natural looking effect. Prior to your treatment we advise that you do not use eyebrow tints or hair stimulants for at least 4 weeks beforehand and avoid IPL hair removal or electrolysis in that area prior to the treatment. The procedure is quite similar to tattooing and can be uncomfortable so we apply a numbing gel before starting.

Straight after the treatment your eyebrows may look extremely dark but try not to be alarmed! As the skin recovers and the pigment settles the colour will appear around 30% to 70% lighter. You should be careful when cleaning your face after the treatment and don’t rub or pick at the area. Any redness or swelling will subside within 48 hours and you should make sure you use skin care with an SPF. If properly cared for, the final result will last for about 18 months but you can have a colour boosting session after a year.

Cosmetic Injectables are a great way of getting predictable, natural-looking results without any invasive procedures and with minimal recovery time. At the London Cosmetic Clinic we offer the Sculptra liquid facelift which helps restore the contours of the face, boost its volume and plump out lines and wrinkles.

The volumising liquid in Sculptra is poly-l-lactic acid, a biocompatible and biodegradable liquid that has been used successfully in surgical operations for over 25 years. Whilst most fillers work by plumping the skin themselves, i.e. by being the filling themselves, Sculptra is different in that it encourages the skin to produce its own collagen. This means that the result is more true to the patient’s appearance and looks completely natural and proportioned. It can be used in wrinkles and lines around the face such as nasolabial folds and sunken cheeks as well as being used on deep scars.

Prior to your treatment we apply a numbing agent and the liquid is massaged after being injected. You may need two or three sessions, depending on the severity of your lines and it takes around six weeks for the effects to become noticeable. After your treatment you do not have to take any time off from your usual schedule and, as it is non-invasive, there are no stitches and no risk of infection.

Reversing Aging with Sculptra, The Liquid Facelift

One of the first things that people notice about another person’s face is their smile so it is really important that you feel happy and confident with your smile however there are some things that can prevent people from being happy with their smile. At the London Cosmetic Clinic we can alter and improve the appearance of your smile with the use of non-invasive treatments such as Botulinum toxin injections.

Some people find that their upper lip lifts up too high when they smile, showing too much of the gum line and making them feel self-conscious about their smile. This is caused by the muscles in the upper lip working too hard and over-extending so we use small, carefully positioned injections of Botulinum toxin to block the nerve impulses and therefore stop the muscles from lifting the lip too much whilst still allowing you to smile.

Sometimes people avoid smiling in photos because they don’t like the shape of their face when they smile, often due to overdeveloped jaw muscles which can make women’s face look less feminine and out of proportion. In these cases we can also use a course of Botulinum toxin injections so the muscles are used less and over time start to naturally reduce in size. We also offer a range of dermal fillers that can plump out wrinkles so you can smile with confidence instead of worrying about looking older.

Before any treatments we take you through a very thorough consultation to determine the best course of action for you. In order to keep your final results as natural looking as possible, we will ask you to go through a series of expressions at your consultation and work with your features and face shape. As these treatments are not permanent, you can choose to have the treatment redone if you wish or have a top-up treatment to alter the final result if need be.

Transforming Your Smile

At The London Cosmetic Clinic we endevour to keep up with all the latest developments in the world of aesthetics and are proud to introduce the brand new NORDLYS IPL machine from Ellipse.

The NORDLYS has just gained FDA approval in the USA and is the most versatile and effective IPL machine that has been created to date. This brand new model has unique sub-millisecond pulses and can be easily controlled and adjusted, meaning that we can give you even better results. The NORDLYS model was built for precision; it’s selective waveband technology and superior ergonomics means that it gives highly precise results even on the tiniest of thread veins.

As well as the usual IPL treatments that you would expect to receive with an IPL system, we have found that the NORDLYS is even more effective when combined with other treatments, for example pairing a thread face lift with IPL skin rejuvenation. We have also used it to reduce inflammation and sensitivity following an Obaji skin peel. The NORDLYS IPL Ellipse system gives even more effective and precise results with all treatments including acne scar removal, hair removal and hyperpigmentation treatments.

If you are interested in the fantastic results that the NORDLYS IPL system by Ellipse can give, contact us on 0203 5813391 to speak to a member of our friendly and knowledgeable team.

People spend a lot of time and money on topical treatments trying to reverse the effects of sun damage, lifestyle choices and gravity on their skin but sometimes something more drastic is required to make a noticeable difference.  The traditional facelift used to be considered the only option to tauten and lift skin but these involve invasive surgery, a recovery period and bruising, as well as the tell-tale ‘gathering behind the ears’.  At the London Cosmetic Clinic we specialise in a range of innovative solutions that are not only non-invasive and effective but give natural looking results and encourage the skin tissue to repair itself so your skin is given a whole new lease of life.

The first recorded facelift was performed back in 1901in Berlin, Germany and involved literally lifting a woman’s skin and cutting off the excess. This led to further developments in plastic surgery innovations, especially in facial reconstruction. These developments included operating on the deeper layers of the skin and muscle tissue as well as focusing on different areas of the face. Even with developments in surgery techniques, these surgical facelifts are still not without risks, for example skin necrosis, bleeding and scarring.

Fast-forward to today and cosmetic surgery has made even more leaps and bounds. For example, we offer the silhouette thread facelift which lifts the skin, like a traditional facelift would but involves using extremely fine threads which dissolve over time instead of scalpels and staples and doesn’t require going under general anaesthetic.

Several signs of aging occur when the production of collagen, which gives skin its bounce and elasticity, dwindles. As well as being a normal part of the aging process, this can also be caused by lifestyle choices such as smoking, excess sun exposure and an unhealthy diet. Several of our treatments such as the Dermaroller and the Vampire facelift, which involves harvesting the client’s own plasma and blood platelets and reinjecting them, kick start the skin’s natural healing process and production of collagen. This means that the results are natural yet noticeable as well as being an ongoing improvement in the condition of the skin.

If you would like to know more about how our treatments can take years off of your appearance and what the best course of action for you is, contact us today to speak to our friendly, knowledgeable team.

The Changing Face of Changing Faces

Summer is here and that means revealing clothes, sunny holidays and weddings so, understandably, you’re more likely to consider cosmetic treatments to ensure that you look good for special occasions and to boost your confidence. Most treatments require some recovery time for your skin afterwards and may take a few days to see results so you need to consider this when deciding what treatments to have done.

For example, many people choose to have Botox injections before weddings and other big celebrations to smooth out fine lines so that they look their best in photographs as well as injections for excess sweating so they do not ruin their outfits or makeup but you shouldn’t wait until the day before to get them done. Botox injections take 2-3 days to start to work and around 7-10 days to see the full effect so you need to plan ahead to make sure your skin looks fantastic for the big day. Likewise, semi-permanent makeup is great for holidays as you don’t have to worry about your makeup smudging in the hot weather or running in the pool as well as not having to pack as much makeup with you. It does however require a few days’ healing time as well as 1-2 weeks for the pigment to settle down to its final colour so shouldn’t be left to the last minute before you jet off!

As well as just timing your treatment so that you get the best final results in time for a special occasion, certain skin rejuvenation treatments such as IPL skin rejuvenation and chemical skin peels can leave the skin more vulnerable to UV damage whilst it recovers and heals itself. If you do go sunbathing or get too much sun exposure straight after a treatment it can make your tan come out patchy and give you uneven pigmentation. It is always recommended that you use a high SPF sunscreen after these kind of treatments and this is good practice to keep up after your skin has fully healed so that you don’t run the risk of prematurely aged skin.

When you have your consultation you should let your practitioner know if you are about to go on holiday or if you are having the treatment done in preparation for a special event so that they can advise you on scheduling it to get the best final results in time as well as your post-treatment care. Make this summer your most beautiful ever!

What Treatments Can I Have During Summer?

Many people of all ages suffer from acne and whilst a healthy diet and good skincare regime can help, the major underlying cause is hormones. When too much of the hormone androgen is products by the body it causes the sebaceous glands to produce too much oil which then blocks hair follicles in the skin. This can result in blackheads, whiteheads and, in some cases, cysts. Acne can clear up with age and with a good skincare regime but sometimes it can take a lot longer to go and can even cause scarring. At  The London Cosmetic Clinic we use the Ellipse IPL system for a number of purposes including the removal of the most severe types of acne.

IPL is short for Intense Pulsed Light and it has a number of different effects on the body as the varying wave lengths react with pigment in the skin. It treats acne in two ways; firstly, it causes a photodynamic reaction and releases a free radical singular oxygen molecule that destroys acne-causing bacteria. Secondly, the absorbed light heats the capillaries and reduces blood flow to the sebaceous glands, meaning that they produce less oil and therefore less acne.

The Ellipse IPL system works on three of the most severe types of acne-

Acne Rosacea- an inflammation of the skin on the face, neck and chest that gives a ruddy complexion and causes soreness. It can start with flushes then gradually worsen to permanent redness.

Acne Vulgaris- spots, blackheads and lesions caused by blocked glands. This is the most typical form of acne.

Acne Conglobata- pustules and inflamed bumps on the back, buttocks and chest. These can be painful as well as leading to bacterial infections and scarring.

If you have any of these types of acne, book a consultation so we can assess your skin for its suitability and give you an obligation free patch test. Prior to treatment we recommend that you use a medicinal acne cream such as Differin or Redap and avoid excess sun exposure for 30 days. After the treatment your skin may feel slightly red and sore but this will subside as the skin heals itself and again you must avoid sun exposure for 30 days. It is recommended that you use an SPF of at least 30 and continue to use the acne cream to get rid of any remaining bacteria.

Ellipse IPL treatment can help to clear acne in as little as 4 sessions and reduce the risk of scarring and infections. Once you have completed your course of sessions, you will have visibly clearer, smoother skin and it is important that you keep up a good skincare regime and protect your skin from excess sun exposure.

Removing Acne with IPL Treatment

In a word- yes! Much like other areas of your body, your ears can suffer wear and tear; not only can they become stretched when weighed down by heavy earrings, the skin also thins with age and skin damage, for example, from excess UV exposure damaging the collagen. This leads to longer, thinner and droopy looking earlobes which can make people feel self-conscious.

At the London Cosmetic Clinic we can offer a minor surgical procedure that repairs damaged earlobes and helps to restore their previous appearance. This treatment is suitable for earlobes that have been stretched and elongated as well as enlarged ear piercing holes. A local anaesthetic is administered before a small amount of skin is removed from the edges of the damaged earlobe to ‘freshen’ it. The earlobe is then gently stitched together and covered with a small bandage which you can remove after a couple of hours.

This procedure is performed in-house and you are free to go home once it is completed. You will need to apply an antibiotic cream until the stitches are removed as well as cleaning the area with a saline solution. From then on you will need to keep your earlobes clean and dry until they are completely healed. This helps to reduce the risk of infection and scarring. It is also advised that you avoid getting your earlobes wet for 3 to 4 days after treatment so you will not be able to wash your hair during this period.

The treated area may feel hard but the skin will soften as it heals. If you want to re-pierce  your ears, you should wait at least 6 months after the treatment. There may be a tiny scar but this will be barely visible if you take care of your earlobes after the treatment. Misshapen earlobes can look unsightly and add years to your appearance but with our earlobe repair treatment you can sweep your hair up with confidence again.

Can I Fix my Damaged Earlobes?

Strong, defined eyebrows are a perfect way to define your face, highlight your eyes and enhance your facial bone structure. However, some women lack this definition as they’re fair haired, have previously over-plucked their eyebrows or have lost hairs due to illness, medication or age. Instead of spending time and effort using eyebrow pencils or powders every day, you can get long lasting definition with the use of semi-permanent eyebrow tattoos, also known as micro-pigmentation.

Using a tattooing technique, tiny amounts of pigment are deposited into the skin to either simulate the effect of hair strands or as a fine colour mist depending on your existing eyebrows, face shape and colourings and desired results. Before treatment, a numbing agent is applied to the area to minimise discomfort and you should avoid certain treatments such as eyebrow waxing, eyebrow tinting, muscle relaxant treatments and hair removal treatments in the weeks leading up to your eyebrow enhancement treatment.

Do not be alarmed if the colour appears to be very strong or dark after your eyebrow enhancement treatment; the colour will settle within a couple of weeks. It is advised that you apply a barrier cream such as petroleum jelly to aid the healing process and use a strong SPF as the skin around the area may be more prone to UV damage and over-exposure to the sun’s rays can break down the pigment. Any redness, itching or swelling should subside within 48 hours of the treatment and it is important that you do not scratch or pick at your eyebrows.

You can enjoy your new look for 3 to 4 years and then can decide whether or not to have a top-up treatment. Your eyebrows can instantly give you a striking, glamourous new look, boost your confidence and liberate you from applying makeup every day.
