Procedure
One legacy we uphold at London Cosmetic Clinic is taking Consultation as seriously as the treatment itself. Consultation is very important because, in skin treatment, there is hardly ever a one-size fits all scenario which is why Consultation is always the first step in our treatment procedure.
During the Consultation, a full assessment of the patient is carried out while also looking into their medical history and how it can or cannot help in the treatment procedure, after which an appointment is booked for the actual procedure.
On the treatment day, our professional skin therapists are going to prepare you for the treatment procedure. This involves an initial skin cleansing with the aim of removing excess oil, which could interfere with the procedure.
Next up is the application of a thick layer of Cosmelan Mask in an even manner. Depending on skin type, the mask may sting slightly after application, but this sting doesn’t last long.
At London Cosmetic Clinic, our expert doctors always pay close attention to our clients during the entire procedure to check for possible changes that may occur due to the application of the mask.
This mask is left on for a period of 8 to 12 hours, depending on the severity of the skin condition. Because of how much time the treatment has to work, the active components can be absorbed deeply and gently into the skin as opposed to the fast and aggressive method of treatment employed by chemical procedures.
Due to the long hours required for the mask to work, a full aftercare kit is provided for you, alongside detailed instructions on how and when to remove the mask.
During the 8 to 10 hours that the mask stays on the skin, the body sends blood to the masked area, thereby flooding the area with collagen, red blood cells, and white blood cells. This action makes the skin in the masked area appear reddish. So, do not be alarmed when you notice this; it is just an indication of the process of skin shedding and wound healing.
Seven days after the treatment is administered, the skin would have recovered from the redness, with obvious skin improvements. Apply the Cosmelan cream in the home kit provided for you at least twice a day, and also, use the Pigment Control on your now over-sensitive skin to reduce sun exposure.
After these seven days, a follow-up visit to our clinic will be required to keep track of the progress. After one month, the mask will need to be reapplied to allow for optimum results.

Who is the treatment suitable for?

Are there any side effects of having a Cosmelan treatment?
Cosmelan treatments seldom cause side effects, and when they do, they’re easily dealt with. After the in-clinic mask has been removed, some patients’ skin may feel slightly flushed, minor dryness and flaking might also occur. Applying the soothing moisturizer provided in your post-treatment homecare pack will help alleviate any tightness. Will it work on my skin type?
