Excessive Sweating Treatment

Published on: May 15, 2018

Excessive sweating is neither hygienic nor pleasant. If you battle with perspiration, you’ll know how much of a problem it can be in day to day life, whether you’re going to the gym or going for dinner – sweat isn’t just limited to sport!

When prescribed medication just isn’t doing the trick, you may feel like there’s no hope left, but that’s where you’d be wrong. In fact, Botox may be just the treatment you’ve been looking for.

Botox for Sweating?

It may sound slightly odd, but this procedure is a highly effective way for combating excessive sweating, helping to put your worries to rest. It’s approved by the FDA and is confirmed to treat severe sweating. It’s also not a difficult procedure at all!

How Does it Work

In areas of heavy sweating, for example the under arms, feet, palms or forehead, Botox can be injected to block signals from nerves to glands. This means that they won’t ever be triggered to sweat, so your excessive sweating will be dramatically reduced. The full range of areas that we can target at The London Cosmetic Clinic include:

  • Armpits
  • Feet
  • Fingers and palms
  • Forehead, nose and facial area
  • Head and scalp

What the Procedure Involves

Before we begin, you’ll have a numbing cream applied (if you want it) that’ll prevent any discomfort. Some of our clients just go for a bit of ice to numb the area instead. It’s not a painful procedure, so we do this just to keep you comfortable.

The injection of botox will take around 20 minutes. One of our specialist doctors will inject multiple tiny Botulinum toxin (another word for Botox) injections into your areas of excessive sweating with a very small needle. Simple!

It’ll take about 1 to 2 weeks after you’ve had the procedure for the effects to really get going, and you’ll be able to see how much of an improvement the treatment has. It really is a life-changer for a lot of our clients.

The effects of the Botox on your sweating will last around 6-7 months and it will gradually wear off in this time. When this happens, all you need to do is pop back in for another quick treatment and you’ll be good to go again.

Is Not Sweating Dangerous?

A lot of people get put off from having Botox for excessive sweating because they think it isn’t natural to stop the sweat or that it should ‘come out’ of the body. The fact is, it’s completely fine! We’re not blocking the pores or anything like that; the sweat simply isn’t being produced in these areas and the rest of your body will sweat perfectly normally.
