The London Cosmetic Clinic is a mole, skin tag, wart, cyst and other skin lesions removal centre. You will be treated by a well respected and experienced cosmetic doctor.
Moles can be described as pigmented blemishes that appears on the face or body. They can vary in size, shape and colour. Some moles are flat, while others can have a raised appearance. The majority of moles are usually harmless, however if you notice a change in colour or shape, or if the mole begin to irritate you, then it should be checked by a doctor as these symptoms could be signs of something more serious.
Highly visible moles on the body or face can often lead to loss of confidence or embarrassment for certain individuals. Moles that restrict movement, or which are overly large, can sometimes result in pain and distress.
A skin tag is a small protrusion of skin that often grows in the groin area, armpit, neck and eyelid.
A cyst is a sack filled with fluid or semi-fluid material. Cysts develop in various places in the body and arise from different tissues.
A wart is generally a small, rough growth, typically on hands and feet but often in other locations. They can resemble a cauliflower or a solid blister. They are caused by a viral infection. It is possible to get warts from others as they are contagious and usually enter the body in an area of broken skin. They typically disappear after a few months but can last for years and can recur.
Fortunately, there are fast and straightforward procedures available for removal of the above lesions which bring a renewed sense of confidence to the patient.
At your consultation, the lesion will be carefully examined by our Specialist doctors who will advise the best method of removal. You should inform the doctor if there is any recent change in colour, size, surface and shape of the lesions.
Prior to the treatment : Topical or local anaesthetic will be administered
Shave excision – The procedure involves using a dermablade to remove the mole parallel to the surface of the skin. This leaves a small superficial wound which may need cauterisation to stop any bleeding and tidy the wound. The whole procedure takes about 20 minutes. No stitches are needed and healing takes about 1 to 2 weeks. This technique is used mainly for mole and skin tag removal
Elliptical excision – a deep excision that removes the mole more completely. The resulting wound requires stitches which can be either dissolvable or non-dissolvable depending on the site of removal. The treatment takes about 20-30 minutes. Generally, it is a method to remove deep moles and Cysts
Hyfrecator treatment – The hyfrecator is a low-powered medical apparatus used in electro surgery. It is used to destroy tissue directly, and to stop bleeding during minor surgery. This leaves a small superficial wound. The hyfrecator has a large number of uses, such as removal of warts, moles, skin tags and some other types of skin lesions. The treatment takes only a few minutes to complete
Post treatment : You can resume normal activities straight away in most cases and a dressing is applied to keep the wound clean for a few days. Antibiotic cream will be prescribed to apply at the wounds until the wound heals or stiches are removed. Specific post treatment instructions will be discussed with you during your visit by our Clinic Coordinator. If stitches are applied, you will be scheduled to come back for stitch removal in 1-2 weeks
We put your safety first. So most skin lesions are sent to a laboratory for histology tests after the removal. This uses a high-powered microscope to detect any abnormal cells. Although most moles can look normal to the naked eye, occasionally early abnormal cells can be detected in the tissue, which could cause skin cancer. Hence the need to send for sample for analysis to exclude this diagnosis
Apart from the local anaesthetic injection which you may feel a little prick and sting at the beginning of the treatment for a second to numb the area, you should not feel any discomfort at all afterwards. However, when the treatment finishes and anaesthetic effect wears off, slight discomfort may be experienced. Normally patients are not required to take any pain killers
With any cosmetic surgery procedure however there are potential side-effects such as infection, bleeding and scarring. Fortunately, with mole removal, the risks are very low and it is a safe and simple procedure
All skin lesion removal procedures, both surgical and Hyfrecator, will leave a small scar which is normally far less noticeable than the original mole. We use the latest techniques to ensure any scarring is minimal. Rarely, some people with very dark or light skin have an abnormal response to healing and end up with larger scars than usual (hypertrophic or keloid scars).
Scarring is inevitable for all forms of mole removal however the skill of the dermatologist is to limit this to a minimal degree that is almost not noticeable. The mole removal technique is one important factor to help achieve the best results but also daily massaging with a moisturiser over the scarred area can help in the first 3 months. Also some patients get better results with bio-oil or silicon gels such as dermatix or kelocote that can be bought from the chemist again applied for the first 3 months. These silicon scar reduction gels can also come in plaster like dressings rather than gels that can be easier for areas where gels are not suitable
