In this piece, we’ll explore the different mole removal methods we offer our patients – and the results you can expect post-treatment.
What Are Moles?
Moles are benign growths that appear across the body. They can vary in shape, size and colour – but are usually small with a brown pigment. Sometimes, moles can be unsightly and be a source of embarrassment.
How Are Moles Removed?
Here at The London Cosmetic Clinic, we use a variety of methods to remove unsightly moles. They include:
Shave Excision: This method involves utilising a dermablade to remove the mole parallel to the surface of the skin. The procedure takes approximately 20 minutes and leaves a small wound where the mole once was. The wound usually takes between one to two weeks to heal. It’s the most common way to remove small moles.
Elliptical Excision: For larger moles, we can use a method called Elliptical Excision. This approach makes a deep excision that removes the complete mole. As the excision is deeper, the wound does require stitches, which are either dissolvable or non-dissolvable depending on the site of removal. An Elliptical Excision takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes to complete.
Hyfrecator Treatment: The hyfrecator is a device that emits electro-pulses to destroy tissue. It can be utilised to remove moles, leaving a small superficial wound. Usually, this treatment only takes a couple of minutes to complete.
