When we think of Botulinum toxin injections, we often think of smoothing out wrinkles on our face, but it can actually have a lot of other functions, including helping us treat excessive sweating. When the weather gets warmer, excess sweating can make people feel uncomfortable and limit the clothing and activities that they enjoy.

Botulinum toxin injections is a very effective treatment for excessive sweating that FDA approved , the treatment stops excess sweating by blocking the chemical signals sent to the sweat glands; if they don’t receive the message to produce sweat, then they don’t produce any. The procedure is relatively quick and is non-invasive but we can apply a topical numbing agent to minimise any discomfort. As well as being used under the arms, we can use this treatment on the hands, feet, forehead and the scalp. Once we have administered the Botulinum toxin into the area you would like treated, you are free to go home but we advise not to rub the area for about 4 hours post-treatment and avoid excessive exercise for 24 hours post-treatment. You will start to notice the difference after 1 to 2 weeks and the effects will last for around 6 months. We recommend that you visit us for a top-up treatment.

Our anti-sweat injections are a fast and effective way of making you feel cool and fresh during the warmer months and giving you a confidence. You no longer have to worry about unpleasant odours in your shoes, sweaty palms when you shake people’s hands or unsightly sweat patches on your clothes.

Botulinum Toxin Injections to Stop Sweating

Thread veins can appear on our legs for a variety of reasons such as poor circulation, alcohol
consumption, carrying extra weight or simply being stood up for a long time for a prolonged period
and they can look particularly prominent if you have very fair skin. Whilst there are a few things you
can do to try to prevent them from appearing, none of which are guaranteed to work, you can erase
them at the London Cosmetic Clinic with the use of IPL treatment.

Short for intense pulsed light, we use IPL treatment for various treatments at our Knightsbridge-
based clinic including skin rejuvenation and minimising skin pigmentation. The light rays from the
device create a thermal reaction in the skin which cauterises the broken capillaries that make up
thread veins. As less blood flows to these broken capillaries, they start to fade and the thread veins
disappear. Straight after your IPL session your skin may appear redder but this will quickly calm
down as your skin recovers. We recommend that you use SPF 35 or higher as your skin will be
temporarily more susceptible to UV damage.

You may need several sessions depending on the severity of your thread veins and this will be
discussed at your consultation. We also use this technique to remove other areas of redness such as
port wine stains and hyperpigmentation. To find out more about thread vein removal or any of our
other treatments, contact us today to book a consultation.

Ellipse IPL Treatment for Hair Removal

As summer approaches and more skin is on show, a lot of us are looking for hassle-free ways of
removing body hair. At the London Cosmetic Clinic we deliver quick, long-term hair removal without
chemicals, irritation or ingrown hairs thanks to Ellipse IPL treatment.

We use Intense Pulsed Light, or IPL for short, treatment for various different treatments including
hair removal as it is quick, effective and gives predictable results. It gives the best results when there
is a great colour contrast, e.g. pale skin with dark hairs. When the body hair is exposed to the
wavelengths of light, the pigment within it absorbs the light and converts it to heat, destroying the
follicle and preventing it from producing a replacement hair. The result is fewer, lighter and finer
hair in the treated area.

Prior to treatment we advise that you refrain from tweezing, waxing or plucking hairs for 4 weeks so
there are plenty of hair follicles to treat and afterwards protect your skin from UV exposure as it will
be more susceptible to damage. You may need around 6 sessions to reach your final desired result
with each session spaced a month or two apart. Your skin may be slightly red and sore, like being
sun-burnt, directly after your session but once your skin recovers you may find that it’s in even
better condition.

Botulinum Toxin for Excess Sweating

This summer is set to be one of the hottest on record but, whilst most of us enjoy getting extra sunshine and a bit of a tan, for those who experience excess sweating hot weather can be inconvenient and embarrassing. At The London Cosmetic Clinic our Botulinum Toxin practitioner can help stop sweating from the forehead, palms, feet and armpits, giving people the freedom to shake hands, exercise and wear whatever they want without worrying about smells and dampness.

Botulinum toxin injections work by blocking chemical signals to the nerves in the muscles. In the case of sweating, this stops sending the message telling the body to produce sweat. The procedure only takes 20 to 25 minutes and we advise you not to touch or rub the skin straight afterwards and to avoid exercise for 24 hours. You will start to notice the effects of the treatment after 1-2 weeks and you should stay sweat-free for about 6 months, after which time you will gradually start sweating again unless you have a top-up treatment.

Controlling your sweating means that you don’t need to carry around spare tops or spend a fortune on antiperspirants only to have to keep reapplying them and can make you feel more confident. Botulinum Toxin for Excess Sweating

Even with healthy eating and plenty of exercise, many of us still have stubborn areas of fat that are impossible to reduce, especially women who can store extra fat due to hormones. Previously the only solution would be painful liposuction or covering up trouble zones but thanks to advances in technology we can now offer Aqualyx body sculpting at the London Cosmetic Clinic. Developed by the late aesthetic surgeon Professor Motolese, Aqualyx is a non-invasive method of injecting a micro-gelantuous, hydrous solution into problem areas such as the thighs and tummy to liquefy the fat cells and release the stored lipids. This solution is both bio-compatible and biodegradable and works on the subcutaneous layer of fat, which is the top layer of fat that can sometimes be localised in areas, causing a lumpy silhouette and hard-to-shift problem areas.

When you lose fat from diet and exercise, your body releases stored energy from its fat cells which then shrink but the fat cells remain and can refill when you consume excess calories, you can also gain more fat cells but your body cannot get rid of them. Aqualyx dissolves the fat cells so, when combined with a healthy diet and active lifestyle, your body keeps off the fat that has been released. In addition to this, you cannot naturally spot reduce, i.e. you can lose fat but you have no control over where it is lost from, but with Aqualyx you can choose which problem areas you want to slim down. No more spending hours doing leg lifts without shifting those saddlebags!

It may be tempting to have Aqualyx injections straight before a holiday but you must avoid subjecting the treated area to extreme hot or cold temperatures or direct sunlight so saunas, sun beds and hot climates should be avoided until the area has recovered. You should also avoid applying cosmetics for at least 12 hours afterwards and avoid physical exercises for 4 to 5 days. Straight after your Aqualyx treatment you may experience some swelling and mild discomfort, itching and burning sensations but these will subside. It may take up to 2 weeks to see the full results of the treatment as the fat cells need to dissolve and then get released by the body as opposed to liposuction which is more invasive and can leave scarring as the fat is removed directly from the body. The swelling also needs to subside so the treated area will start to look a lot slimmer after about a week.

When you have your consultation we will discuss with you what areas you would like treated and how many sessions you may need. Some people see dramatic results after just one session and we use an ultrasound to help massage the solution into your fat cells and help it to work even more efficiently. Aqualyx is a safe and non-invasive method of getting your dream body without risking scarring or causing a huge disruption to your day-to-day life. We are more than happy to discuss any queries and answer any questions you may have about the treatment and the aftercare procedure to give you complete peace of mind.

Getting your Dream Body with Aqualyx

Sweating is a completely normal function that helps the body regulate its temperature but some of us find that we are excessively sweating to the point that it can be embarrassing. This can be caused by various factors such as hyperthyroidism, certain medications, menopause or simply genetics.

If you feel excessively sweaty and antiperspirants just aren’t cutting it, help is at hand in the form of Botox injections.  Often associated with getting rid of wrinkles, Botox is a protein derived from the Clostridium botulinum bacteria and is a neurotoxin, so it stops nerve activity. When injected into areas with a high concentration of sweat glands such as the armpits, soles of the feet, forehead or palms, it stops the glands from producing and releasing sweat.

Having Botox injections can be slightly painful but a numbing agent is applied to the area you are having treated. Whether you are male or female, you should shave your armpits before having Botox injected there. It’ll take about 1-2 weeks for the treatment to take effect and it will then last for just over 6 months. During this time, sweat isn’t produced by the glands in the treated area and you can then decide whether or not you would like the treatment repeated. If you don’t have the treatment redone, the areas will gradually start to sweat as they did previously.

The treatment takes around 15 to 20 minutes after which you should avoid rubbing the treated area and avoid exercise for 24 hours after. Being sweat-free helps you feel comfortable and confident, especially as the weather gets warmer. You don’t have to worry about clammy hands when you meet people and can wear t-shirts without worrying about sweat and deodorant stains. If you are concerned about excess sweating, contact us today for a consultation.
